MOSCOW, Oct 31 (PRIME) -- Russia may have to launch new power generating plants starting from 2025, a spokesperson at the Energy Ministry told reporters on Tuesday.
A state plan for power plants placement approved by the Russian government in June sees 32.9 gigawatts (GW) of power generation withdrawn from the Unified Energy System by 2025, with another 90 GW needing upgrades because they will reach the end of their operational life. Lunches of new capacities will amount to 17 GW.
“Taking into account that the maximum consumption of power within the Unified Energy System of Russia is expected to grow by 16.8 GW to 167.9 GW by 2025, the accumulated excessive power capacities may be depleted and the launch of new power generation capacities will be crucial starting from 2025,” the spokesperson said.
